The theory exam for driving license B consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. Each question is read aloud and appears on your screen, with 2 or 3 answer options and 15 seconds of thinking time. The entire exam takes about 30 minutes.
How the questions are structured
You take the exam on a computer with headphones. First, you hear the complete question, then the answer options, and only then does the 15-second timer start during which you choose. You cannot go back to a previous question, so each question stands alone. Let the computer proceed automatically, so you retain your full thinking time.
Which topics are covered?
The 50 questions are a random selection from all themes of the Belgian Highway Code. They cover:
- the traffic rules (right of way, overtaking, speed, parking),
- the traffic signs and road markings,
- hazard recognition and traffic insight in realistic situations.
The rules and scoring are identical in Flanders, Brussels, and Wallonia.
How many do you need to get right?
To pass, you need at least 41 out of 50. Not every mistake weighs equally: a regular mistake costs 1 point, a serious mistake costs 5. How many you can afford to get wrong is detailed in how many mistakes you can make.
